Five Best Musicals on YouTube

Theatre is a wonderful way of processing the world around us and bringing us together. Unfortunately, it is very expensive to see on a professional level. Tickets at the Hale Centre Theater can be over fifty dollars for adults and tickets on Broadway can easily surpass hundreds of dollars a piece.

This is why I have decided to create a list of the Top Five Musicals done by teenagers anyone can find on YouTube for free.

  1. Lyndonville High School’s production of Shrek the Musical

A hilarious musical that still tackles issues such as body image, self-worth, and true love, is done very well by Lyndonville High School. The actors of this production were incredible and did a great job of conveying these cartoonish characters with heart and very powerful voices. If you’re looking for a laugh or some entertaining music, click on the link above to see it for yourself!

  1. The Cornerstone Theatre Company’s production of Seussical Jr.

Whether you’re preparing for an audition for our own Seussical Jr. or want to know what the heck Seussical is, this production will help you grasp the characters and wonderful story. Our own Seussical will probably be the only one that rivals this one is quality. Check it out!

  1. Ottoson Middle School’s Production of Beauty and The Beast Jr.

One of the first musicals I saw on Youtube, this production does a great job of sucking you into the Youtube rabbit hole of school musicals. Even with their limited set, budget, and young actors, Ottoson Middle School uses what they have in the best way. Cogsworth is a hoot and Gaston plays the misogynistic creep factor up enough to emulate the cartoon and smash the song, “Me”.

  1. Grand Ledge High School’s Production of Bye, Bye, Birdie

Our school put on this musical and because it was unfortunately not recorded due to licensing issues, this one is a good replacement. Incredible acting and voices all around, and the nature of this musical will have you laughing and nostalgic at the same time.

  1. Arlington Martin High’s Production of Into the Woods

My all time favorite musical composed and written by Stephen Sondheim is not disgraced by this outstanding production. This musical is very hard to pull off, with its challenging music and lots of jokes to land. Not only does it require phenomenal singers, but the acting skills of the performers have to be great too. Overall, this production is only rivaled by its professional counterparts.
